What is a browlift?
With age and gravity, eyebrows droop giving you a tired and aging look. A browlift is used to lift the eyebrows putting them back into place, and returning the youthful look you once had.
Am I a candidate for this procedure?
If you feel you always have a tired or sad look in your eyes, even though you don’t feel this way, and you like the way you look when you manually lift your brows in front of a mirror, a brow lift could be the right procedure for you.
What do I need to know about this procedure?
This is a simple one-hour procedure. It can be done with general or local anesthesia. It involves a small 4 cm incision behind the hairline on each side. This way the scar is hidden between the hair. Through these incisions the eyebrows are lifted to a younger position.
Are there risks involved?
Every patient that goes into an operating room for surgery needs to be aware that risks do exist. However, complications in this specific procedure are extremely rare. Dr. Mejia will go over all the possible risks of this procedure with you during the initial consultation. It is very important that you are honest with Dr. Mejia about your medical history and habits for things to go as smooth as possible.
What is the aftercare like?
Patients need to sleep with their heads elevated (two pillows) and use cold compresses over their eyes for the first three days. This will help with the swelling. The staples used to close the hair incisions will be removed 2 weeks after surgery. You can wash and shampoo your hair normally but hair dye should be discontinued until 4 weeks post op.
How much downtime is there?
Patients can usually go back to their normal activities 7 days after surgery. Final results are seen 3-6 months after surgery when all the swelling disappears.
